This is the album artwork for my band The Paradigm Complex's upcoming second EP.

The record is due for release next week, I'll post links in my journal. The actual recording process was hilarious - we managed to break the studio's ProTools rig by having too many tracks (maxed out and it crashed repeatedly), and due to schedule issues I ended up recording all the drums in one night.

It's a 24 minute song.

Anyway, the artwork is highly abstract and explores a lot of the themes of the record; I'll let you figure them out when you hear it ;)

This will definitely keep people affixed for a long time! I've no idea what's happening here, but that's the whole point of abstract art isn't it? I take it you're into prog rock, or something like that? This will fit the album nicely.

Shame about your studio travails. They happen to everyone, at least you didn't lose any recordings. Were you recording with the mbox? It's notorious for having latency issues. You have to freeze/bounce all your tracks to reduce the number of realtime effects running.

Cheers buddy! Yeah it's a prog band, the record should be done soon. No idea what mbox is, I'm not in any way technical when it comes to recording ;) I just bash the drums and let the clever people do the hard work.

The mbox is a protools audio interface. Which is a hardware platform that allows audio to be recorded and output from your computer at better quality than a built-in soundcard, and with much less load on your CPU and other system resources. The mbox isn't too powerful though, and when audio tracks and effects start adding up, it's performance drops. But since you were recording live music, it's more likely to have been something more pro: like the "002" upwards.

Anyway, you've got enough to worry about without adding that to your list! :D Good luck with the rest of the record, I hope we get to hear some of it when it's done. What are your influences by the way? Rush, Dream Theater? Or more modern stuff?

I'll be posting links in my journal when it's done! Should be a week or so - think we'll release it as a "pay what you want" digital download on Bandcamp.

Influences are fairly diverse - a lot of people compare us favourably to the Mars Volta, but as a band we're really inspired by film scores, latin music, jazz and generally creating a unique sound... As a drummer I generally just try to play stuff which interests me; there's a five minute improvised section in the middle of the record which we played live, and that's always a chance to let loose and give the listener an insight into our creative process. A bit wanky but I think it's nice to have; we really want the album to sound like something people played (even to the extent of leaving some mistakes in there).

A rather odd design, but still really cool. Makes me think of a very colorful and slurred color pallet
